We Love Taxes

Originally posted at Reform Immigration for America

While the media is sure to pay attention to the crowds of angry tax payers protesting their contribution to the country today, there are millions of people across the country who feel very differently.

Peaceful crowds of immigration reform supporters bearing signs with slogans stating “We Love Taxes!” and “Viva Taxes!” gathered outside post offices in several cities yesterday (and will again today) to rally for tax day – arguably one of the most dreaded days of the year -to make their point. While some Americans are complaining about their burden as citizens, immigrants are clamoring for the opportunity to do more.

A recent report from the Immigration Policy Center and the Center for American Progress found that legalization of undocumented immigrants would generate between $4.5 billion and $5.4 billion in tax revenues over three years. The cost of inaction adds up.

By these calculations, the United States could be gaining $188,227 every hour. But instead, that money is lost to our ailing economy because of inaction on immigration reform.

Take a stand: send a blank tax form to Congress to represent the money that immigration reform could bring into our ailing economy.

Later today, we will be delivering these tax forms to Senator Kay Bailey Huthchison, who will be an important voice in the fight for immigration reform. On Tax Day, we want to show her just how high the cost of inaction on immigration reform is. And, that unlike some others, we love taxes.
