Dolores C. Huerta is the co-founder and First Vice President Emeritus of the United Farm Workers of America. The mother of 11 children, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, Dolores has played a major role in the American civil rights movement. At 79, Dolores still works long hours for the union that she co-founded and nurtured. She travels throughout North America promoting "La Causa" (the cause of the farm workers) and women's rights.
Huerta has been a trusted friend and advisor to Cesar Chavez for over 30 years. Together, they founded the Robert F. Kennedy Medical Plan, the Juan de la Cruz Pension fund for farm workers, and the farm workers credit union, the first of its kind. They also formed the National Farm Workers Service Center, Inc., a community organization designed around economic hostels and five Spanish radio stations.
